Fifth Edition Of KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U-17 Colts Championship Launched

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the fifth edition of the KGL Foundation Inter-regional U-17 Colts Championship at the Conference Room of the KGL House in Labone, Accra.

President of the GFA, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and other Executive Council Members as well as top officials of the KGL Foundation were present at the colourful event.

The Championship, which was first launched in 2021, has been the foundation to exposing young talents in Ghana and giving them the platform to display their talent.

Mr Okraku, in his address lauded KGL for their continuous support towards the development of young talents.
This is a celebration of youthful talent, regional pride and the enduring power of football to unite and to transform he said.
This championship embodies the dreams of young boys across the country and gives them the platform to showcase not only their talents but also discipline and potential.

Five years ago, when nobody in Ghana believed in the vision of the Football Association, KGL came through for us.
My sincerest appreciation goes to the leadership of KGL for your commitment towards the revival of the Ghanaian, especially and most importantly, your commitment towards offering these young boys the opportunity to realise their dreams.

Chief Executive Officer of the KGL Foundation, Elliot Dadey described the Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship as a movement that is shaping Ghana’s future through football.

Dadey said the Foundation’s commitment since 2021 has gone beyond providing kits and equipment.
“We’ve invested in a belief system. Football has become a viable path for these young boys to chase their dreams,” he said.
Dadey stressed that the project is grounded in community and passion, and mirrors Ghanaian values of integrity and determination.

The championship is also aimed at promoting talent discovery, fostering regional unity, supporting youth development, and nurturing future stars from the district level to the national phase.
For the 2025 edition, KGL is providing each participating team with 60 kits (30 home jerseys and 30 away jerseys), footballs, bibs and cones.

The first edition of the tournament, held at the McDan La Town Park and Madina Astro Turf, was won by MAL FC. Great Corinthians then claimed the trophy in 2022. In 2023, the U-17 team of the Ashanti Region hosted and won the title, becoming the first region to lift the trophy.

Last year, the tournament was held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, where Western Region beat Eastern Region 2-1 in the final.

The ten Regional Football Associations will select their best U-17 players from their colts competitions to represent their various regions.
